Move over Marvel – there’s a new superhero in town, and he’s taking over arenas this fall. Puerto Rican superstar Myke Towers is embracing his alter ego with ‘La Pantera Negra,’ a star-studded album dropping this Friday that’s already got fans buzzing thanks to some very personal Bad Bunny lyrics that may or may not be about a certain supermodel.
“First of all, I feel like I’m a superhero, whenever I’m performing or in the studio,” Towers tells Billboard with a grin. “When it’s time to do what I do, it’s like putting on the suit.” And suit up he has – the chart-topping artist has been in full superhero mode this year, breaking streaming records, starring in MLB campaigns, and now announcing his biggest tour yet.
Myke Towers Collabs With Bad Bunny
Let’s talk about that Bad Bunny collab, shall we? Their new hit “Adivino” had social media detectives working overtime, thanks to Benito’s surprisingly candid verses about a past relationship (hello, Kendall Jenner references!). Towers, clearly amused by the speculation, reveals that Bad Bunny knew exactly what he was doing: “When he listened to that one, he said, ‘You know exactly why you showed me that first. I’ll take that song.’ And I think he wrote with the heart because he’s saying facts, talking to a girl he’s got on his mind.”
But there’s more to this superhero story than relationship drama. The 20-track album features an impressive roster of music’s hottest names, including Mexican phenomenon Peso Pluma and hitmaker Jay Wheeler. There’s even a surprise collaboration with producer-to-the-stars Benny Blanco, which happened after a chance meeting in an L.A. studio. “His vibe is crazy — whenever I’m around him, he’s like laughing [all] around,” Towers shares about the session that produced three instant bangers.
Despite his rising superstar status (and four Latin American Music Award nominations), Towers keeps it surprisingly real. His biggest vice? “My obsession with Oreo cookies,” he confesses in a recent interview. Stars – they really are just like us!
This fall, fans can catch Towers in his element as he embarks on his first major arena tour, hitting 18 cities across North America. The “La Pantera Negra Tour” kicks off October 2 in Fairfax, VA, and will bring his superhero energy to iconic venues like Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and LA’s YouTube Theater. And yes, the venues are bigger this time – because this panther needs room to prowl.
Dominating The Charts
2024 has already been major for Towers. Beyond dominating the charts (his “LA FALDA” remix with Tiësto is certified 2x Platinum), he made his MLB debut in May, starring alongside comedian Marcello Hernández in the “El Béisbol es Otra Cosa” campaign. Not bad for a guy who says he treats every day “as another day at the office.”
The new album showcases all sides of Towers’ musical personality, from club bangers to surprising Bob Marley-inspired vibes on tracks like “En el Mar.” “I don’t like to do anything that sounds the same,” he explains. “I feel like I have all these different sides of me that I want to show.” And show them he does – while staying true to his roots in the Latin urban scene that made him a star.
For someone who’s constantly in superhero mode, Towers remains charmingly down-to-earth about his success. “I keep a very humble attitude,” he insists, while preparing to drop what might be his biggest project yet. “At the end of the day, I have to thank my fans for helping me get that recognition.”
